Johanna House
Johanna Beach, Victoria.
A discrete addition to the landscape; a journey of gradual and layered concealment; a revelation of landscape and ocean.
Situated on 100 acres of secluded pristine bush land adjoining national park, the open kitchen, dining and living area facilitate extensive views of the ocean and protected wilderness, including known endangered flora and fauna. The Johanna house has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which each maintain a balance of privacy and interaction with landscape. No trees were cleared.
Pure geometry and detailing create a stillness. Rammed earth and steel, heavy and light; concrete and glass, opaque and transparent. The experience is a dematerialising interconnection with landscape. Attention is distilled to a meditation on place and present.
